Senior Linux Kernel Engineer

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in C.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
  • Experience in experimental design, analysis, and performance tools.
  • Experience in kernel development and architecting and developing distributed systems design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Experience with complex distributed system software, thorough understanding of computer architecture, and familiarity with x86 assembly or Linux internals.
  • Experience in the following areas: performance debugging and optimization of complex workloads, design of performance tools, compiler design and code optimization, high-performance software development techniques, concurrent programming, or multi-core computer architectures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.

As a Senior Linux Kernel Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional Linux kernel performance monitoring infrastructure for Google data centers. You will work on processor and system performance monitoring hardware and associated collection tools, with hardware vendors to improve hardware capabilities, and tooling to deliver the most insightful performance data to our end users at scale.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the upstream Linux community.
  • Work on the tool used to collect performance data fleetwide.
