Product Design Engineer III, Pixel Hardware

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes.
  • 3 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
  • 3 years of experience with Structural Simulation software like ABAQUS or ANSYS.
  • Experience in manufacturing processes such as injection molding, sheet metal forming and die casting, Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in consumer product design shipping multiple consumer products.
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers around the world on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support.
  • Experience setting up both material lab and development process of tools.
  • Experience using statistical analysis to solve engineering and manufacturing issues, including geometric tolerances and statistical tolerance analysis techniques.
  • Experience with system integration, including electro-mechanical components (audio, display, camera, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product architecture.

As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.

As a Product Design Engineer, you will be heavily involved in the design of the next generation of Pixel consumer products. You will drive the structural design, material characterization, and structural analysis, and prototyping of new mechanical concepts while working in a manufacturing and product-oriented development environment. You will demonstrate creative problem solving and analysis skills, clear communication, and a solid base of engineering fundamentals. Your strong organizational skills help you manage your varied responsibilities across the product.

In this role, you will work on a Product Design team that balances comfort, performance, and appearance in an innovative and harmonious design that complements and enables the technology. You will collaborate with external vendors and internal cross-functional teams such as Electrical Engineering, Antenna, Industrial Design, Reliability, Regulatory/Compliance, Operations, Camera Engineering, and Product to define and deliver excellent products.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Own and drive analysis of designs, enabling early optimization prior to prototyping as well as root cause and failure analysis of difficult mechanical problems.
  • Generate Finite Element Analysis (FEM)/Investigative models of mechanical parts, modules, and assemblies. Use Static, dynamic, structural and thermal-mechanical analysis and create and develop statistical based methods to predict field failure models.
  • Own and drive material characterization and testing to support modeling efforts.
  • Propose solutions to problems based on analysis data.
  • Generate applicable engineering specifications and create applicable processes to assure consistent early analysis and design validation of critical issues.
