Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience in product research in an applied research setting, or similar.
  • Experience in programming languages used for data manipulation and computational statistics (e.g., Python, R,MATLAB MATLAB, C++, Java, or Go).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, or related field.
  • Experience working with AI model training and communicating research to cross-functional partners, stakeholders, and executives.
  • Experience shaping and executing research programs in ambiguous spaces with a focus on understanding the product/market landscape.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of research methodologies, including their strengths, weaknesses, and optimal application in the product life-cycle.
  • Ability to distill complex problem spaces into understandable frameworks.
  • Excellent systems-thinking, written and verbal communication skills.

You will drive impact at all stages of development by investigating user behavior through empirical methods like logs analysis, survey research, and regression. In this role, you will support one of our core AI Model Quality teams, driving the creation of trusted and helpful experiences for users interacting with AI on Search. You will set the direction for both near-term improvements and the long-term goal for AI interactions on Google Search.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $151,000-$222,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct primary research to support teams working on quality and trust of AI features on Search.
  • Partner with cross-functional partners across product, content design, and data science to develop insights and align model training methods to best serve user needs.
  • Establish a decisive user-centered point of view to guide product strategy.
  • Support the development of the research roadmapping and aligning, recommending how research resources are allocated on this roadmap.
  • Understand and utilize the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.
