Senior Software Engineer, Search UI Infrastructure, Design System

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of expertise in Web technologies, libraries and frameworks like, React or Vue, as well in programming languages like Java, Javascript/Typescript.
  • Experience in Python programming.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience with server-side optimization and infrastructure that supports high traffic, complex applications.
  • Knowledge of browser rendering lifecycles, performance tuning, and infrastructure optimization.
  • Familiarity with Chrome DevTools and related web technologies for UI rendering.

We are re-imagining Search Feature development and building the next generation of search rendering infrastructure. The services our team maintains reside at the core of the Search Rendering stack, giving an opportunity to shape how Search works and how search feature developers bring their ideas to users. The opportunities to leverage AI to accelerate feature development are plenty. All this happens via a centralized design system, a source of truth for designing, building, and launching coherent experiences across all search surfaces.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for taking ownership and driving the technical direction of Search's critical infrastructure initiatives. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across Search to deliver a flexible, scalable, and high-performance platform for all of Google Search.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and direction to a team of engineers.
  • Seek opportunities to learn from peers and the broader team/company to capitalize on the latest AI solutions where applicable, and apply them to Search problems to accelerate feature development.
  • Architect solid/stable/maintainable software systems with clean APIs that help accelerate feature development across platforms and surfaces.
  • Partner with Search feature teams and other infrastructure groups to ensure that solutions meet business needs, scale to users, and can adapt to future challenges.
  • Ensure the team’s deliverables align with organizational goals related to infrastructure scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
