Child Safety Engineering Analyst, Trust and Safety

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in data analysis, including identifying trends, generating summary statistics, and drawing insights from quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Experience with SQL.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • Experience with scripting language, machine learning tools, techniques and systems, including large language models.
  • Knowledge of current abuse techniques and practices.
  • Ability to work with engineering stakeholders to gather requirements, explaining models, and iterating to make improvements.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever-changing environment.

On this team, you're a big-picture thinker and strategic leader. As a Trust and Safety Strategist, you are responsible for protecting the integrity of some of Google's key products, including Google Search, Google Maps, Google Ads, AdSense, Google Checkout and Google Product Search. You investigate financial fraud, account-related abuse, questionable business practices, violations of Google's policies, and general misuse of our products. You are introduced to dynamic analytical techniques and you leverage custom-built technology to have a direct impact on improving the experience of millions of Google users. You subscribe to a "user-first" philosophy and are interested in improving Google's user experience and product integrity. You are comfortable navigating ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You harness your analytical and technical skills to drive tool development and process improvements.

We partner with teams across Google to deliver bold solutions in abuse areas such as malware, spam and account hijacking. A team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers, we work to reduce risk and fight abuse across all of Google’s products, protecting our users, advertisers, and publishers across the globe in over 40 languages.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Perform complex data analyses to derive insights that help identify emerging threats and fight abuse across our products.
  • Identify opportunities for the improvement of Google’s detection and enforcement systems as well as for automation.
  • Lead multiple interdependent projects of moderate to high complexity and scope. Work cross-functionally to ensure coordination and alignment on objectives and key results.
  • Compute statistics (e.g., precision, recall) about the performance of complex technical models (ML systems, classifiers, LLMs) and recognize nuanced, easily missed problems in the performance of these systems.
  • Review or be exposed to sensitive or graphic content as part of the core role.
