Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience with development, testing and deployment for Android Board Support Packages (BSP), Linux device drivers, Linux kernel modules, or Free Real-Time Operating System (FreeRTOS) drivers/modules.
- 5 years of experience in software development team management.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience leading software system development.
- Experience in Android BSP development and in product manufacturing.
- Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.

As a Software Engineering Manager on the Pixel Watch Device Software team, you will be responsible for new project development and system optimization for Google smartwatch devices. You will lead the development of high-quality software and provide technical guidance to the team. Additionally, you will influence the requirement and design of new hardware and software, drive the software part of the manufacturing process, and ensure product quality during mass production.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers in the architecture, design, and implementation of the system software stack for Google's wearable/smartwatch devices and the related manufacturing processes.
- Drive software project development from architecture, scoping, and implementation through testing and deployment. Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain the drivers, Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL), and frameworks essential for software features on Google WearOS devices.
- Identify opportunities for optimizing and enhancing system quality, including stability, power consumption, and overall performance.
- Oversee the integration of manufacturing software, encompassing vendor codebase integration, development of debugging tools, and issue triage.
- Collaborate with Test Engineers and Hardware (HW)/Software (SW) teams on the development of manufacturing test plans and software, as well as in-system monitoring and diagnostics for hardware products.
