Senior Software Engineer, TV Systems Performance

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (C++, Python).
  • 4 years of experience in Android application development.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with performance, large-scale systems data analysis, visualization tools, or debugging.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 4 years of software development experience with a focus on system-level optimization or high-performance software.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams or external hardware partners to land technical improvements.
  • Ability to drive and lead performance engineering efforts, including the adoption of AI-assisted tools and the transition to modern automation frameworks.

As a Senior Software Engineer for TV Systems Performance, you will serve as a technical anchor for ensuring Google TV devices deliver excellent performance. You will play a key role in performance tuning for major retail partner launches and optimizing Reference Designs to scale quality across the global ecosystem.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between systems engineering and modern innovation, partnering with the team to evolve AI-assisted tools that automate performance analysis. You will help drive architectural shifts like 64-bit transitions and Mobile Generic Kernel Image (GKI) adoption while collaborating with SoC vendors on system-level enhancements. We are looking for a self-directed expert who can contribute to the team’s technical excellence, share domain expertise to unlock hardware efficiencies, and empower developers across the organization.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the performance tuning for top retail partner launches while optimizing Reference Designs to ensure scalability across the global device ecosystem.
  • Partner with the Tooling Lead to evolve Gemini-assisted tools, transforming how the team conducts device performance analysis and optimization.
  • Lead the evaluations for major industry shifts, such as 64-bit userspace transitions and Mobile GKI adoption, to optimize system resources and reduce hardware costs.
  • Partner with SoC vendors and hardware providers to advocate for and implement kernel/driver enhancements that optimize device throughput and resource utilization.
  • Partner with cross-functional Google teams to align performance requirements and integrate system-level optimizations into broader platform releases. Act as a technical anchor for the performance charter, providing architectural oversight and technical guidance to the team where necessary.
