Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design (e.g., Graphic, Interaction, Industrial, Architecture, etc.) or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience working with multi-disciplinary UX teams.
  • 10 years of experience with product, service, and solution design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Architecture or Fine Arts.
  • Experience connecting product design, business strategy, and brand and marketing.
  • Experience elevating product craft, including proficiency in Figma.
  • Experience with artificial intelligence and large language models.
  • Expertise in managerial and operational excellence with experience successfully leading and lifting large, global teams.
  • Portfolio of exceptional product design work with evidence of impact at scale.

The Search team is on a multi-year mission to redesign the Search experience for a new generation of younger users. We will transition Search from a legacy, text-first experience to one that is visually rich, engaging, and responsive to users’ dramatically changing information needs.

As the Principal Creative Director, you will help redesign the core Search experience for the AI era. You will reimagine a Search that is radically more expressive, opinionated, and easier to use. In leading designers and through direct contributions you will help us develop 0->1 products and innovative user-centered design. As a leader on one of the largest design teams within Google, you will foster a vibrant culture of creativity that attracts and retains exceptional designers, and you will nurture teams where diversity of background and perspective is celebrated. You will move effortlessly between the high level strategic POV and the tiny details that make the difference. You will inspire teams and partners alike to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $253,000-$363,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Co-lead Search’s next generation design language for the AI era. Develop a compelling creative POV on what the future of Search and how it could feel to users.
  • Align partner teams across Google on a cohesive design approach that scales to horizontal experiences.
  • Co-create design strategy for 0->1 product ideas across Search, including opportunity discovery, cross-product strategy, provocative product visions, cross-portfolio user journeys.
  • Own emergent, highly complex, ambiguous bets from inception to landed proposal. Frame opportunities, potential product solutions, drive initiatives in partnership with key functional partners.
  • Consult with marketing on hero marketing moments and campaign creation. Act as the conduit between product design and other creative functions. Own the principles and story of the Search brand.
