Creative Engineering Lead

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in a technical, UX, or design setting, or related experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of creative leadership experience, with a portfolio showcasing award-winning work or projects that have significantly influenced their respective industries.
  • Experience leading a creative agency, studio, or internal creative team responsible for delivering working prototypes, websites, interactive experiences, video content, or applications to clients/stakeholders.
  • Experience in video editing, cinematic storytelling, and modern web frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Next.js), with a keen eye on UI/UX design.
  • Experience with 3D modeling, animation, game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine), or interactive media development (e.g., WebGL, three.js).
  • Understanding of visual storytelling, design principles, and composition.

As a UX Engineer, you'll work as part of a UX team in a challenging, fast-paced environment. You’ll demonstrate your creativity, analytical skills, and knowledge of user facing technologies to create prototypes that identify the best product experiences, launch innovative features, build tools that accelerate UX teams, bridge between design and engineering discussions, and enable efficient, high quality execution.

In this role, you will not only deliver prototypes but also establish the creative systems and tooling that empower our entire studio to innovate at an unprecedented pace. You will be an industry leader renowned for your exceptional storytelling, design sensibility, and you will bring complex creative goals to life through innovative digital experiences.

Google Research is building the next generation of intelligent systems for all Google products. To achieve this, we’re working on projects that utilize the latest computer science techniques developed by skilled software developers and research scientists. Google Research teams collaborate closely with other teams across Google, maintaining the flexibility and versatility required to adapt new projects and foci that meet the demands of the world's fast-paced business needs.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $178,000-$265,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Establish and advocate the creative aesthetic, storytelling approach, and overall creative quality standards for all prototypes and experiences developed within the Envisioning Studio.
  • Apply award-winning storytelling techniques to ensure that our prototypes not only demonstrate technological capability but also resonate emotionally and functionally with audiences.
  • Contribute and lead to the development of high-fidelity, jaw-dropping prototypes that leverage the latest AI models in video, image, music, and interactive 3D. Your work will set the bar for creative and technical excellence.
  • Act as a creative leader and mentor for our creative technologists and broader prototyping pods, fostering a culture of imaginative exploration, design excellence, and rapid iteration.
  • Develop and advocate creative systems, asset libraries, and rapid prototyping tools that enable our creative pods to accelerate their development and maintain a consistent, high-quality output.
