Software Engineer II, Account Threats

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 1 year of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience implementing core ML concepts.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems, in the context of machine learning infrastructure or applications.
  • Experience developing and deploying machine learning models, especially deep learning or natural language processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with TensorFlow or similar frameworks.
  • Experience in the adversarial space, fraud detection, or other anti-abuse domains.

Account Threats is a dynamic cross-functional group at the forefront of user protection. As a member of the team, you will be closely working with colleagues who fight account abuse on a daily basis. As an Account Threats Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development of robust AI/ML-driven systems applied for abuse prevention, detection, and enforcement. You will immerse yourself in comprehending abuse principles, behaviors, and operations. You will focus on identifying efficient ways to process and utilize signals for abuse detection and developing new signals and challenges to prevent novel abuse vectors without compromising the experience of legitimate users.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and enhance machine learning models for abuse prevention and detection.
  • Identify relevant data sources and design signals to detect threats, contributing to the formulation of enhanced protection strategies.
  • Optimize signal generation processes, including identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks to ensure scalability.
  • Gain expertise in emerging abuse trends, designing, implementing and testing innovative strategies to combat them.
  • Collaborate with Trust and Safety Analysts and other abuse engineering teams to develop new detection methodologies and evaluate the efficacy and impact of existing protection mechanisms.
