Engineering Manager, Mobile, YouTube Media Engine

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 5 years of experience with Android or iOS application development.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture, and testing/launching software products.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Experience driving large cross-product projects, driving strategy and creating roadmaps.
  • Experience working on performance analysis, Optimization and running experiments.
  • Experience in server and mobile projects.
  • Ability to influence teams across organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent project management and execution skills.

About the job

Our Mission is to be the media editing and creation platform of choice for all media creation products at YouTube. The Media Engine team is building the core media infrastructure at YouTube to enable creation journeys and push the boundaries of visual storytelling. We are part of the larger ACE (Advanced Capabilities and Effects) team at YouTube where our mission is to bring the state of the art media understanding and generation from Google’s Research and Core ML teams to YouTube and lower the effort needed to create a video or live stream, inspire new ideas, and power new ways for creators to interact with each other and with their viewers.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the Media Engine team with an expertise in media processing on iOS and Android platforms, and build the media creation infrastructure to power the creation capabilities across multiple product surfaces at YouTube.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $189,000-$284,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of engineers building Media Engine, a robust media platform to aid creation workflows across multiple YouTube surfaces.
  • Collaborate with adjacent teams and cross-functional partners to build and launch new features powered by Media Engine.
  • Identify, prioritize, and manage high-impact initiatives on the team’s roadmap.
  • Bring a relentless focus on making the platform robust and performant, and improve the quality of media created with our products.
  • Empower, challenge, and coach team members to grow their impact as individual technical leaders by providing them with context and continuous feedback.
