Research Engineer, Vision Language Models

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms in either an academic or industry setting.
  • 2 years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools (e.g., TensorFlow), artificial intelligence, deep learning or natural language processing.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD Degree in Computer Science.
  • Experience in productionizing machine learning solutions.
  • Experience in machine learning, computer vision, and deep learning, especially in video and image understanding, supported by publications or research artifacts.
  • Experience working in an industry or academic research lab, focusing on multiple aspects of the "research to product" pipeline.

The team develops novel core technologies around computer vision and machine learning, in particular customized visual language models, scene and object understanding, 3D computer vision, high-level text understanding, 3D reconstruction and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), object detection and tracking. The activity spans the whole range from research to product. The team is composed of Research Scientists and Software Engineers with a focus on 3D scene reconstruction, object and text understanding and Generative AI. The team serves multiple perception-related products at Google, with a particular focus on AR products and applications.Labs is a group focused on incubating early-stage efforts in support of Google’s mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our team exists to help discover and create new ways to advance our core products through exploration and the application of new technologies. We work to build new solutions that have the potential to transform how users interact with Google. Our goal is to drive innovation by developing new Google products and capabilities that deliver significant impact over longer timeframes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative computer vision and machine learning technology for applications in the field of augmented reality and beyond (e.g.,object understanding, high level text understanding, video understanding).
  • Guide the integration of advanced visual language models into consumer products. Work together with research teams to improve performance and improve user experience.
  • Lead the development and integration of innovative solutions involving Gen AI models, integrate them into products matching the production requirements.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with main stakeholders and keep recurring updates on the advancements of the project, making sure that their expectations are aligned to the research and engineering work.
