Technical Program Manager, Data Center Services

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in the construction management, engineering management (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil, geotechnical, controls) or real estate development environment with 5 years focused on facilities (e.g., data centers, chip fab, pharma, power plants, industrial, etc.).
  • 8 years of experience in infrastructure planning, capacity strategy, supply chain management, or technical program management within the data center, cloud computing, or related technology industries.
  • 8 years of experience in managing cross-functional programs.
  • 5 years of experience in program management or planning for data center infrastructure.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in construction program and project delivery of facilities over the full project life-cycle.
  • Experience in data center operations, monitoring systems, mechanical infrastructure systems, mechanical maintenance, and Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
  • Experience with data center equipment/environments, including switchgear, generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, controls, security monitoring systems, and fire safety systems.
  • Experience with commercial negotiations, contractor procurement and mobilization into delivery.
  • Experience managing fast-paced capital projects.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical infrastructure systems within large-scale facilities.

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage projects of various size and scope, identifying future opportunities, improving processes and driving the technical directions of your programs.

As a part of the Data center Delivery and Engineering (DCDE) team, a collective of architectural design experts, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, construction project managers, water/air leader, data center services manager and project controls managers who plan, design, and construct the most efficient data centers in the world.

In this role, you will report into the Data Center Services (DCS) team and work with the various cross-functional teams that help design and deliver critical capacity using performance specifications. In addition, you will co-ordinate and align with numerous cross functional teams focusing on design, construction and delivery.Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next-generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. Responsibilities

  • Guide the development of a clear integrated project delivery strategy, effectively communicating it to internal teams and extended stakeholders while driving alignment around key milestones, interdependencies, workflows, and critical path management for capital projects.
  • Lead and co-ordinate the design, construction, and capital project support for delivery operations, provide strategic and tactical leadership over data center construction projects.
  • Develop and manage key elements of procurement, off site fabrication, land development, commissioning, operational turnover, workforce shift operations, earned value management, and productivity management.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including leadership from key vendors to foster strong relationships, and serve as a key partner to proactively identify potential risks and opportunities ensuring alignment on project objectives.
  • Collaborate with and mentor teams of engineers and project managers in delivering at scale throughout the region.
