Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 1 year of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
- 1 year of experience with data structures or algorithms.
- 1 year of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with developing large scale, reliable and high performance systems.
- Experience in writing highly optimized and relatively low level code in C++.
- Experience in Infrastructure Systems, Performance Optimization or Critical Infrastructure.

A Retrieval Engine takes a user's search query, first finding relevant documents and then ranking them by importance. Document retrieval is performed either through traditional methods (e.g., looking up words in an inverted index) or by converting queries and documents into embeddings and finding relevant documents via nearest neighbor search.
The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. We are owners and advocates for the underlying design elements, developer platforms, product components, and infrastructure at Google. - Improve Google's core search engine for flexibility, customizability, and efficiency.
- Develop code that scales to the world's largest search engine and is as efficient as possible.
- Write code that scales demands while remaining flexible for quick iteration and experimentation.
