Engineering Manager, Android Application Safety

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience managing software engineering teams.
  • Experience with system design, large-scale distributed systems, and management.
  • Experience in designing and launching large-scale distributed infrastructure or frontend tooling, and with anti-abuse and safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply ML and genAI to real-world problems.
  • Deep technical expertise and a proven track record in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

The Android Application Safety team is dedicated to protecting Android devices from malware, privacy violations, and content abuse. By leveraging AI and building infrastructure, the team identifies and addresses malicious code, harmful developers, and inappropriate content to ensure a secure Android ecosystem, while ensuring a delightful experience for good developers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement AI-powered algorithms for application abuse detection. Design and maintain user-facing tools to facilitate human reviews and scalable enforcement infrastructure.
  • Devise detection and enforcement strategies that consider developer experience and potential adversarial adaptations. Oversee teams responsible for building and maintaining infrastructure and detection mechanisms.

  • Collaborate with other technical leads and leaders across sites to establish vision, strategy, and priorities. Attract and retain talent in our field.
  • Manage and guide the execution of engineering teams. Mentor/Coach junior engineers in the team with career development and grow them as engineers.
