Senior Product Manager, Infrastructure, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in product management or related technical role.
  • 5 years of experience in product management, with a focus on platform products, APIs, or developer tools.
  • 3 years of experience taking technical products from conception to launch (e.g., ideation to execution, end-to-end, 0 to 1, etc).
  • Experience building platforms and API life-cycle management, API gateways, or related API technologies.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard API protocols (e.g., OpenAPI, gRPC) and API security best practices.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple teams in a changing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for technical and non-technical audiences.

The Application Programming Interface (API) Management Platforms team builds and enhances the core infrastructure powering Google's vast API ecosystem. Our mission is to deliver a comprehensive, reliable platform that empowers First-Party Google teams and Third-Party developers to effortlessly design, build, deploy, secure, and manage APIs at scale. We drive API-first development and foster innovation by providing tooling, clear standards, and self-service capabilities. This ensures a consistent, secure, and performant API experience across all environments, meeting Google's standards for reliability and compliance while delivering a developer experience. Our work is central to realizing Google's goals for a cohesive and extensible API platform, as outlined in the One Platform Strategy 2025.

As a Product Manager on this team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategy, roadmap, and execution of Google's core API infrastructure. You will enable product teams to efficiently scale their APIs, fostering a reliable and developer-friendly experience across Google Cloud and beyond. You will cultivate the API ecosystem and drive platform adoption among internal service producers and external developers alike.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $192,000-$285,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Define and advocate the product roadmap for APIs management platforms, prioritizing features that align with overarching Google Cloud strategies.
  • Translate market research and customer needs into actionable product specifications, comprehensive user guides, and precise APIs interface definitions.
  • Partner with engineering, user experience, and internal Google teams to understand unique API needs, drive alignment, and facilitate seamless platform integration.
  • Deliver a high-quality, self-service platform with  extensibility, ensuring an exceptional developer experience that promotes API-first development.
  • Establish and track Key Performance Indicators to measure product adoption, success, and overall impact on Google's API ecosystem.
