VP, Silicon Engineering

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Experience shipping multiple custom silicon products from concept to production (end to end).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to listen, articulate positions, and advocate and influence cross-functional partners and executive leadership.
  • Highly collaborative leadership style with demonstrated success building bridges and fostering productive partnerships with critical software and research organizations.
  • Technical expertise in delivering transformative, next generation products.
  • Proven track record of building state-of-the-art SoCs or ASICs utilizing bleeding-edge technology innovations and navigating the associated technical risks.
  • Deep expertise across the entire silicon development lifecycle, including product definition, engineering execution, fab partners.

About the job

As the VP of Silicon Engineering you will be a thought leader and drive the research, innovation, design, verification, and implementation of silicon hardware for Google’s products.

In this role, you will lead a global organization across critical disciplines, overseeing teams that build chips, integrated circuits, and software for silicon, including both pre-silicon verification and post-silicon bring-up and validation, and deliver high-quality silicon into production.

This is a cross-functional role that works closely with functional VP/SVP leaders across product management, hardware engineering, software engineering, component engineering, design, finance, sales, marketing, and across the Platforms & Devices product area. Externally, this role requires partnership with C-level, contract manufacturer partners, legal, regulatory, etc. to operate the business.

You will lead and inspire a global team of 2,000+ engineers and technical program managers, as well as foster community amongst the broader silicon ecosystem (including product management and operations) within the devices & services community. You will also be a key member of the Devices & Services Product Group (DSPG) leadership team.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary for this full-time position is $550,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the vision, planning, and architecture of future silicon generations for Google’s consumer electronic products (including our IP and SoC roadmaps).
  • Drive complex silicon decisions, align our technical strategy with long-term commercial goals and translate our vision to flawless execution and delivery, to ensure the delivery of high-quality and innovative chips to the market.
  • Lead a globally distributed organization of engineers who are responsible for the research, design, verification, and implementation of silicon hardware, including both pre-silicon verification and post-silicon validation.
  • Drive the end-to-end technical delivery of the silicon roadmap, overseeing foundry execution and advanced packaging integration to ensure quality performance and reliability.
