Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience with diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer hardware and server hardware.
  • Experience with assembly of mechanical or electrical systems, or performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment.
  • Experience with networking protocols.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required.
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6 years of experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.
  • Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.
  • Experience collaborating and partnering with teams.
  • Experience in team and project management and leadership.

About the job

The Hardware Operations team is responsible for monitoring, maintaining and deploying the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure behind Google's powerful search technology. As a Data Center Technician, you'll deploy and maintain Google's advanced Data Center Server and Network Infrastructure. You'll also participate in or lead local project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans.

In this role, duties range from the physical deployment of data center-related technology to working closely with the various stakeholders. It will fall to you to ensure that our goals, missions and projects are successfully delivered, and, more importantly, that they are repeatable across our global array of data centers. This position offers a great introduction to the wider engineering world at Google. Depending of your area of interest, capabilities, and geographical mobility, you will have the opportunity to develop either within Hardware Operations or move towards software development, engineering, networking operations or our project management groups.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $105,000-$151,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate across teams involving moderate to high complexity to manage construction activities at facilities to support service vendors, and ensure safety, security, and compliance. Help identify needs and coordinate the allocation of resources for space expansion and modification design.
  • Analyze and compile data to create and configure scripts and tools for data center-related tracking and reporting, in line with project objectives, with some guidance. Provide mentorship to deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across teams.
  • Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose moderately complex issues with equipment or infrastructure, and identify the resources needed to resolve identified issues.
  • Own the repair, fix, and performance of preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues with limited precedent.
  • Travel up to 70% of the time as needed.
