  • 6 years of experience working with or in government, think tanks, public interest groups, technology industry groups or corporate public policy organizations.
  • Experience working on a global team that has a variety of stakeholders, and executing strategies to deliver solutions.
  • Experience in mobile industry.
  • Ability to identify/gather insights and communicate clear technology policy issues.

About the job

The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) Platforms and Devices Products team focuses on Android, Play, Chrome and Pixel product areas to advise on public policy issues. We work closely with PR, Marketing, Legal, Partnerships, and other teams within GAPP to develop consistent public policy strategies and positions to share on Google’s behalf to relevant stakeholders. Our mission is to help Google, governments, and civil society responsibly navigate the social, political and economic issues of our time.

The GAPP Platforms and Devices corporate affairs’ mission is to advance Google’s equities in the mobile and hardware ecosystem by engaging with key strategic players and activating the industry.

We are responsible for driving an integrated approach to industry engagements and events (e.g., Commerce Enabling Services (CES), Mobile World Congress (MWC)) and coalition building to advocate Google’s equities in the mobile and hardware ecosystems.In this role, you will be an ambassador for the Platforms and Devices product areas’ issues and interests with policymakers and key opinion formers in particular with the industry.

In this role you will work on breaking down barriers preventing consumer adoption of our products You will be activating government and policy levers to enable market access and expansion of the business. You will be defending our products business models while creating runway for future business models .Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $113,000-$162,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with influential players who support open digital ecosystems. This could include developers, manufacturers, and other industry stakeholders. Understand their interests and identify areas of alignment and potential misalignment.
  • Support our assessment of the need for industry associations or coalitions in our key markets, develop strategic plans, and partner with other GAPP teams to ensure consistency and alignment on priorities.
  • Develop policy programs for industry or Google events that support our priorities.
  • Create new ways to advance our equities, with a particular focus on our key markets.
  • Partner with the International Government Affairs team to identify opportunities of engagement to advance Platforms and Devices priorities.
