Environmental Health and Safety Cluster Manager

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).
  • 7 years of experience in one or more of the following fields: robotics and automation (e.g., risk assessment and hazard mitigation in R&D environments), electrical Safety (e.g., developing programs based on NFPA 70E), or environmental compliance (e.g., navigating legislation like CUPA or BAAQMD).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certifications in CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager).
  • Experience building and scaling safety programs, training modules, and job aids from the ground up.
  • Proficiency in using technology/software systems to track EHS metrics and scale safety initiatives across a large portfolio.

About the job

As an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Cluster Manager (bay area), you will be a member of the Global Environment, Health, and Safety team. You will be the primary architect for implementing Google’s global safety management framework across our dynamic bay area campus. You will partner with cross-functional teams from Engineering to Facilities to build safety solutions for high-stakes environments, including advanced robotics, Research and Development (R&D) labs, and complex electrical infrastructure. With your technical expertise and regulatory savvy, you will solve problems that don't always have a pre-existing manual.

From keeping Googlers safe and secure to managing disruptive events, the ability to anticipate, deter, detect, and act are the pillars of Google’s Global Security and Resilience Services (GSRS) team. As a member of GSRS you will help develop a culture where safety, security and resiliency are integrated into every facet of Google, including the creative process. You will help us continually identify, evaluate and monitor enterprise risks that could affect business activities and provide business leaders the information they need to make critical decisions. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create innovative strategies and develop programs that drive sustainable effectiveness.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $129,000-$187,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate safety solutions based on proactive risk assessments to maximize worker protection in R&D and lab settings.
  • Oversee the creation of educational materials, program documentation, and digital tracking systems to ensure safety solutions scale across the bay area cluster.
  • Partner with the site lead to embed safety protocols into daily operations, ensuring minimal friction and maximum compliance.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments, draft high-level reports for leadership on site safety and health.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for incidents or near misses, identifying corrective actions and ensuring they are tracked to completion.
