Software Engineering Manager II, Google Cloud CDN

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
  • 3 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience working in networking, distributed systems, computing or developing any cloud solutions.
  • Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
  • Ability to debug, optimize code, and to automate routine tasks.

The Google Cloud CDN (Content Delivery Network) team is working with products and infrastructure responsible for a major part of traffic on the global internet. We're designing and operating the control and data plane for the Google Cloud CDN ensuring the delivery of content from storage and backends to the Internet.

In this role, you will be managing a team of Front-end and Back-end Software Engineers, who work on some of our software components, but also support SRE-style systems integration, monitoring, and production support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of seven frontend and backend engineers of various levels developing Google Cloud CDN.
  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals, align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organisation's goals, and meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Work with internal Product teams to translate platform, tooling, and infrastructure needs and constraints into project roadmaps.
  • Work with Engineers, Product Managers and other teams to create, deliver, and evolve high-quality products and features.
