Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- 3 years of experience with one or more of the following: Speech/audio (e.g., technology duplicating and responding to human voice), reinforcement learning (e.g., sequential decision making), machine learning infrastructure, or specialization in another machine learning field.
- 3 years of experience with machine learning infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, optimization, data processing, debugging).
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Experience working with Generative AI and/or ML platforms.
- Experience with cross-functional teams on high-velocity projects.
- Ability to analyze metrics, solve problems, and iterate quickly.

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.The Guided Support Experience (GSE) team sits within gTech Users and Products Engineering, and is responsible for verticalizing the Guided Support Experience in the Google Help Center. GSE is our generative conversational support solution across our consumer product portfolio such as Google Play, Pixel, and Workspace. The GSE team will work closely with our PM partners and other stakeholders in a cross-functional “pod” structure, each pod focusing on customizing GSE to the needs of our Product Verticals (PVs).
This is a newly forming team, but will be composed of 10 engineers in total. We are looking for software engineers who have experience with Generative AI, are comfortable with ambiguity and addressing tough problems, and have experience building capabilities from scratch.In gTech Users and Products (gUP), our mission is to advocate for Google’s users by creating helpful and trusted experiences across the product ecosystem. We achieve this by meeting partners and consumers where they are with support and help, representing their needs with our product partners and proposing fixes and features that elevate their engagement with Google's diverse product ecosystem. Additionally we provide a range of product services that ensure our products are optimized for every user, no matter where they are in the world (e.g., localization, digitization, partner integration and more).
Responsibilities
- Work closely with your GSE pod partners to analyze user behavior and adapt the GSE platform to best support our different product verticals and deliver a high-quality product.
- Analyze every touchpoint across the self-help journey and optimize GSE within that context to drive engagement and successful outcomes.
- Collaborate across gUP and Google, work with product, operations, product verticals and other teams to ensure GSE’s success for product area.
- Contribute towards improving code health, data hygiene and overall system reliability.
