Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Hardware Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- 4 years of experience in applying Design for Reliability techniques.
- 3 years of experience working in a hardware lab environment or industry experience in electrical, mechanical components, or system testing in a lab environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- 3 years of experience working in a hardware Research and Development lab environment or industry experience in electrical/mechanical component/system testing in a laboratory environment.
- Experience with reliability testing methods and best practices, including shock tower, vibration table, environmental tests - programming and operation, mechanical testing, and electrical testing of consumer electronics.
- Experience with Google tools like Google Workspace.
- Knowledge of Digital Image Correlation (DIC).
About the job
You will be a member of the reliability lab team, supporting the development of Google Hardware through reliability testing. Central to this role is an advanced understanding in both theory and practice of mechanical and environmental reliability test methods, test instrumentation/transducers, data acquisition, and signal processing. Your expertise with data collection/signal acquisition techniques will contribute to the reliability and product development teams by providing a data driven basis for design decisions.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $126,000-$181,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Set up instrumentation for mechanical, environmental and electrical tests. Generate conceptual and detailed sketches and layouts.
- Interface with internal customers to identify test system requirements. Propose test instrumentation solutions. Troubleshoot test setups, including data acquisition systems, accelerometer, load cells, strain gauges, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and general time varying signals.
- Develop reliability test instrumentation systems including instrumentation and data collection system design, detailed documentation, and maintenance requirements. Plan, setup, and execute environmental and mechanical reliability tests, working with Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) to develop solutions.
- Perform reliability test procedures and mentor others, while creating custom test setups and strategies to facilitate reliability testing of various hardware components and systems. Troubleshoot mechanical/electrical test setups, test equipment, data acquisition systems, signal processing issues.
- Create post-test reports and present data in a meaningful manner to best convey information.
