Staff Software Engineer, On Device intelligence

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with machine learning/AI in a software development environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with Android/Chrome development.
  • Experience with applied deep/machine learning and LLMs (both training and integrating with).

This is a research team focusing on developing AI models and features for various on-device applications for Android and Chrome.

As a Staff software Engineer on the team, you'll lead the charge in developing innovative AI applications and features for Android and Chrome. You will own the entire project lifecycle, from brainstorming novel ideas to prototyping, validating, tuning ML models, and launching impactful solutions to users.

Collaborate with talented engineers, product managers, and designers to bring your vision to life, pushing the boundaries of what's possible with AI on user devices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
  • Conceptualize, prototype and develop novel on-device AI applications and features for Android and Chrome, pushing the boundaries of user experience and technological possibilities.
  • Form and maintain collaborations with cross-functional teams (product, engineering, design), incorporate their feedback and work closely together with them on launching new AI applications.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of cutting-edge AI research and industry trends, identifying opportunities to leverage advancements in on-device AI for Android and Chrome.
  • Be able to rapidly prototype new ideas, conduct thorough analysis, and iterate based on feedback.
