Director, Engineering, Workspace Slides and Sites, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in engineering leadership, managing technical projects.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, storage systems, or large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience working across organizational boundaries, cross-functionally, and across product areas.
  • Experience as a consumer leader in a changing environment.
  • Experience leading large-scale engineering organizations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in AI/ML integration within productivity or collaboration tools, and building cross-platform applications and local-to-cloud synchronization technologies.
  • Deep understanding of the commercial storage market and competitive landscape.
  • Understanding of the complex relationship between the organization and its environment, with ability to identify connections, adopt different perspectives, and quickly respond to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and import and export talent and ideas to achieve a broader organizational goal.
  • Ability to mentor and retain excellent engineering leadership in a highly competitive talent market.
  • Outstanding communication skills that drive executional impact at scale.

As the Director of Engineering for Workspace Slides, you will lead an exceptional organization responsible for one of the world’s most collaborative presentation platforms during its most significant evolution since inception. Slides is at a pivotal inflection point, evolving from a “presentation tool" to a next-generation, AI-native creator platform. You will oversee a high-performing team that is currently excelling; your primary focus will be to accelerate innovation this includes the successful rollout of transformative AI initiatives.

You will bring a "consumer-first" mindset to an enterprise-scale product, balancing the operational excellence of a massive-scale product with the "0-to-1" mindset required to integrated generative AI into the core of the user experience. You will guide architectural decisions that bridge local machine operations with cloud-scale infrastructure.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $307,000-$427,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead and scale a global engineering organization, fostering a culture of innovation, "can-do" energy, rapid experimentation, and technical depth.
  • Define and execute the technical roadmap for Google Slides, shifting from a legacy feature mindset to an AI-first architecture that prioritizes velocity and intelligence.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to build innovative and advanced AI capabilities and accelerate Google Slides’ commercial success and growth.
  • Cultivate a high-performing talent pool and foster enhanced collaborative relationships with DeepMind teams to demonstrably improve the velocity and overall quality of product delivery.
