Technical Program Manager III, Embedded, Pixel

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience with mobile software development.
  • Experience with hardware/software programs, or System on a Chip (SoC)/embedded chip bring up.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience shipping software for complex silicon and hardware products.
  • Experience with release management, ideally with Android OS (or other major operating systems).
  • Understanding of the software development life cycle and experience commercializing technical product launches, comfortable conversing on technical topics and products.

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

As a Technical Program Manager (TPMs), you will track overall Software development for Pixel phones and tablets, from concept to launch. This includes planning for Pixel Software development and release, managing the software and hardware Programmed Data Processor (PDP) gates, and collaborating with Hardware, gChips, Software, Carrier, Testing, and Operation teams to deliver the new products on time with high quality. You will epitomize the philosophy, that huge gains are made in the long run by focusing on the right details now. We plan complex, global, multi-disciplinary projects on fixed schedules with big launches each year at the made by Google event. Our work is equal in parts of technical and executional. You will be equally comfortable explaining their team's analyses and recommendations to executives as they are discussing technical trade-offs with engineers.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $156,000-$229,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Deliver successful phone launches by owning and driving the overall software schedule from concept, pre-silicon to ship. Develop solid and defensible plans, spotting and tracking key risks and issues, triaging and prioritizing features and bugs, marshaling cross-functional support, and escalating when required. 
  • Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks and communicate status to upper management and project stakeholders. Engage and energize the project teams to achieve dynamic goals. Use data to drive technical analyses on software issues and partner with teams to develop fixes, timelines, and communications to drive Project Analysis-level decisions.
  • Be an advocate of Pixel software quality and measure/track software launch readiness across many dimensions.
  • Drive program-wide process improvements to enhance scalability and repeatability of Pixel new product development, the device life cycle, features and software releases.
