Senior Privacy Engineer, Commerce Shopping

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a privacy related field (e.g., security engineering, data engineering, data scientist, compliance engineering etc.).
  • 4 years of experience in stakeholder management.
  • 1 year of experience leading the application of privacy technologies (e.g., differential privacy, automated access management solutions, etc.) to solve technical and data management problems, customizing existing solutions and frameworks to meet user needs.
  • 1 year of experience designing solutions for technological problems to maintain the privacy posture of the organization, leading teams across multiple workstreams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in a privacy engineering or security engineering technical program management or software engineering role with a focus on privacy.
  • Experience in the e-commerce or online advertising industry.
  • Knowledge of system design, software engineering, data flows, and security concepts.
  • Ability to manage projects, define scope, set milestones, and drive execution in a cross-functional environment.

Shopping Privacy’s mission is to enable user trust by working across Shopping product and engineering teams to define privacy standards, meet regulatory requirements, enhance user control, and ensure that privacy risks are proactively identified and mitigated. We support the entire Shopping organization in building products that earn and maintain user trust, protect user privacy, and comply with global regulations. With an increasingly AI-powered line of products, we play a key role in managing unique privacy opportunities and challenges for product integrations with Gemini and other AI products.

We are hiring a Privacy Engineer with strong program management skills. In this role, you will be instrumental in driving privacy initiatives, conducting technical privacy reviews, and enhancing privacy practices across Shopping. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and legal teams to ensure our products are designed and built with privacy at the forefront, while also managing projects to improve the organization’s privacy stance. Your role requires a blend of privacy expertise, technical depth, and the ability to lead and organize cross-functional privacy efforts.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering and product teams to conduct in-depth privacy reviews for new Shopping products and features, analyzing technical designs, data flows, and data managing practices.
  • Provide expert technical guidance on privacy best practices, data protection, and privacy enhancing technologies. Mentor and support our network of privacy advocates.
  • Identify, assess, and help mitigate privacy risks in existing and proposed products and infrastructure. Develop and implement privacy engineering solutions and well-lit paths to address privacy issues at scale.
  • Manage projects to enhance Shopping’s privacy stance, both for our product lineup and for our technical infrastructure, ensuring clear communication, stakeholder alignment, and timely delivery. Assist in privacy incident response as needed.
  • Address the unique privacy issues and opportunities presented by the integration of Shopping with AI technologies, including collaborations with products/teams like Gemini, Search and Ads.
