Technical Lead, Human Interfaces, XR

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 7 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in computer science, AI, distributed systems, machine learning, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience with state of the art GenAI techniques (e.g., LLMs, Multi-Modal, Large Vision Models) or with GenAI-related concepts (language modeling, computer vision).

About the job

In this role, you will be a part of a cross-functional team with a set of skills spanning research, prototyping, and production mobile development that will drive the boundaries of how headsets and glasses unlock new capabilities for users.

You will be working with some of the most cutting-edge technical developments (e.g., generative AI, agentic systems) across all modalities. Work on one of the best form factors for fully uncovering the potential of AI agents. Collaborate with excellent cross-functional partners (Product Management, User Experience, Program Management, and User Experience Research) to develop completely new user interfaces for people to interact with head-worn devices. Work with a fun group of people who enjoy working together to make new experiences come to life.

Google's XR team is at the forefront of the next major leap – the convergence of AI and XR. This is more than just new devices – it's about reimagining how we interact with the world around us. We're building a future where lightweight XR devices pair with helpful AI to augment human intelligence, offering personalized, conversational, and contextually aware experiences.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248,000-$349,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Define roadmap for Extended Reality (XR) Interfaces powered by AI conversational agents that supports a healthy balance of innovation, user research, and industry trends to push the boundaries of how users interact with headsets and glasses.
  • Partner closely with the broader Applied AI teams, XR developer team, App teams and Google deepmind teams to align development with real-world use cases and tests.
  • Approach to software design, architecture, and coding standards to ensure the highest quality and scalability of XR's AI-driven system interface.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop top engineering talent across the XR Human Interface team.
