About the job
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) provides solutions for public sector organizations and regulated enterprises facing strict data residency and security requirements. This involves building fully isolated, air-gapped environments that operate without connection to Google Cloud or the public internet, offering features like integrated AI/ML from Vertex AI. The team leverages an open ecosystem built on the Kubernetes API and open-source components, and provides flexible hardware options scaling from small to large deployments.
In this role, you will define the operations engineering strategy for these solutions, working with engineering teams to optimize the GDC Air-Gapped operations experience.

Responsibilities
- Define and execute deployment and operations scaling strategies for solutions, and align with overall product strategy and business objectives.
- Design, vet, and deploy life-cycle features, tooling, and processes for planning, deployment, operations, upgrades, expansion, and turn down of GDC air-gapped instances.
- Develop a strategic technical road map for Operations Engineering projects in collaboration with stakeholders across GDC and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Foster partnerships with various sub-teams within GDC, driving joint projects that improve overall Operations Excellence.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers focused on Operations Engineering, and cultivate and manage relationships with key customers, serving as a primary engineering point of contact.
