Technical Lead, Staff Software Engineer, Home Infrastructure

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience with software development in Java or C++.
  • 5 years of experience testing, maintaining, and launching infrastructure, and with software design and architecture.
  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale distributed infrastructure, or experience with storage or distributed data processing.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
  • 3 years of experience in managing an engineering team.

The Health & Home (H&H) team, part of Google's Platforms & Devices product area, aims to improve lives at scale across two key domains: health and home. We are empowering longer, healthier lives via Fitbit, the Personal Health Coach, and AI-powered, actionable insights, and creating a home that cares for its inhabitants and the world. We build the Google Home app and Nest ecosystem, using Gemini to enhance automation, security, and energy management. H&H integrates cutting-edge AI and hardware/software to deliver seamless experiences for user well-being.

The Health and Home Infrastructure team empowers these experiences with scalable serving and offline infrastructure, coherent developer platforms, and trusted data services. We maintain mission-critical, high-QPS distributed systems that guarantee reliability and low-latency performance for all Home and Health services.

The Health Platforms and Devices team builds innovative products and services that help our users live longer, healthier lives. We bring together the best of Google technologies and AI, health behavior science, and user-centered design to help users organize the health and wellness data, get insight from it, and take action toward their health goals. We do this with a suite of apps, services, and health wearables. We aim to make consumer health more personal, proactive, and actionable.

Responsibilities

  • Hire and grow the team in Warsaw, establish the engineering culture, and manage engineers while maintaining engineering best practices and ensuring high engineering quality.
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure the reliability and low-latency performance of high-QPS distributed systems.
  • Review code and provide feedback to ensure best practices, including style guidelines, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.
  • Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines while managing project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Deliver high impact projects for Home Infrastructure by ensuring high engineering quality and working collaboratively with teams in different locations.
