About the job

Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.

With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).

In this role, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, project management, and maintaining the building management system (BMS) and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS). Using Google leadership principles, you will develop new processes and standards while innovating in the controls space.

Google Data centers have multiple components such as generators, UPS, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, etc. All these components have local control systems that interact with each other via open and/or proprietary communications protocols. The BMS is the primary method of control of all mechanical systems within a data center. The EPMS is the primary method of monitoring all electrical systems within a data center.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$174,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Learn more about benefits at Google.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis for BMS and EPMS issues in Google data centers. Review results from quarterly maintenances and provide technical support to operations during life cycle.
  • Train and assist internal customers and stakeholders with the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning and operation of BMS and EPMS systems.
  • Develop BMS and EPMS projects scope of work, schedule, budget, and level of efforts (LOE) to projects requested by customers. Review, implement, troubleshoot and iterate the controls sequence of operation (SOO) and provide feedback to design team.
  • Support Controls projects related commissioning activities in data centers. Develop and modify controls logic programming and graphical user interfaces and financially manage service contracts.
  • Visit (locally) assigned in-operation data centers to troubleshoot, meet customers, supervise work, ensure compliance for scope, design, SOO and local codes.
