Software Engineer III, Host Networking and Offloads

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in C or C++, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • 2 years of experience with Software-Defined Networking concepts and technologies.
  • 2 years of experience with Kubernetes, including cluster administration, networking, and deployment of containerized applications.
  • Experience with SDN controllers, network virtualization, and network function virtualization, as well as with Kubernetes networking concepts.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Experience with low-level system software, Linux kernel networking stack, network, crypto and storage protocols, and their offload technologies.
  • Experience with Container Network Interface (CNI) networking.
  • Experience with VPC networking in cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, and VXLAN, with experience with protocol analysis and troubleshooting.

The Google Distributed Cloud Host Network Functions team is revolutionizing how applications connect and perform in the cloud. The team optimizes Kubernetes networking, builds network foundations, and maximizes performance by leveraging technologies like SmartNICs and optimized Linux kernels. The team's work ensures seamless integration with Google's networking APIs, delivering connectivity and performance for diverse workloads across AI, Retail, Telecom, and Enterprise applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop APIs and software stacks for host networking infrastructure, ensuring network connectivity for Kubernetes Pod and VM workloads from customer on-premise physical networks.
  • Optimize network data paths in the Linux kernel stack by leveraging SmartNICs hardware accelerations and offloads.
  • Deliver performance for customers’ demanding workloads involving secure data handling and AI models.
  • Develop network stacks suitable for AI workloads in high performance computing environments and GPU based architectures.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and help drive operational excellence, track and develop dashboards, and improve quality of products.
