Technical Program Manager, Marine Maintenance, Global Submarine Networks

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Network Operations, Marine Engineering or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in program management.
  • 5 years of marine Industry experience in a marine repair coordination, ship operations management role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of working/leading technical programs, project management, demonstrating excellent cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience in marine Industry external organization/supplier network or insight.
  • Ability to work on their own and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and project coordination/management skills.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills with the ability to think creatively, identifying opportunities to measure, improve operational outcomes in critical situations.

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

Google is forming a new Submarine cable organisation which will build, operate and promote global infrastructure to support Google Global Networking growth and open networking objectives. This organization will require dedicated operations program to help define, design and deploy resources towards a cohesive and coordinated plan embedded within the Google Global Networking and wider Google Cloud division. The development will bring significant new resources into Google, stimulate slick, simplistic governance and drive a talent development program to ensure adequate succession planning and career development in this unique and specific part of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for regional Preventive Maintenance planning and cable repair co-ordination, repair quality and repair lead.
  • Review of new Marine related Cable systems hand over from build to operate teams, ensuring data quality, pre go live checks, maintenance solutions are in place.
  • Responsible for cable repair coordination, assurance and incident management as a key resolver group, regular inspections and maintenance of submarine cables.
  • Rapid response to cable faults and damage, working with repair authority, ship operators, maintenance authorities, and outside related agencies and organizations.
  • Efficient repair and restoration of services working closely with the various teams at cable landing sites, ship to ship communications.
